When the Lead Doesn’t Fit

On April 15, 2025, I went into a cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) procedure expecting a 90-minute surgery that would upgrade my ICD and install three new leads to help my heart beat more efficiently. It ended up taking four hours. Only two of the three leads were placed successfully.

The third lead — the one for the left ventricle — couldn’t be inserted. The path was blocked by a valve, and the vein made a sharp 90-degree turn. Dr. Phan explained that pushing too hard could’ve punctured the vein and led to an emergency. He made the wise call to pause the procedure and try again in six weeks, after healing.

A Change in Plans

I was disappointed. I had hoped for full restoration, a completed surgery, and renewed energy. But in the pause, I saw something deeper: a Holy Week invitation to trust, surrender, and wait.

Applying the Wisdom Ratio

Here’s how I processed this experience using the Wisdom Ratio

Wisdom Ratio Principle: Surrender vs Control

How It Applied During My CRT Procedure: Accepting that the third lead couldn’t be placed — and trusting that waiting was the safer, wiser path.

Discernment vs Reaction: Dr. Phan made a calm, thoughtful decision instead of pushing ahead blindly.

Gratitude vs Complaint: Two leads were successfully placed. No emergency occurred. Cathy was by my side. God was present.

Trust vs Anxiety: The story isn’t over. I trust God’s timing for the next step — and I rest in the peace of what went right.

A Holy Week Perspective

Jesus walked a path of surrender. In the garden, He asked that the cup pass — but ultimately, He yielded to the Father’s will. My own path to healing mirrors that surrender. It’s not just physical — it’s spiritual. My healing isn’t just about restored energy; it’s about trusting God’s process.

This delay is not a denial. It’s a divine pause, and it is filled with meaning.

What’s Your Blocked Vein?

I invite you to reflect: Where in your life do you feel blocked or frustrated? What vein won’t open? Maybe you’re being called not to push harder, but to wait, to rest, and to trust.

Stay open to God's timing.
Stay grounded in grace.
Even when the lead doesn't fit — the story does.
