Behold, I Am Doing a New Thing
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” — Isaiah 43:18–19
Letting Go of the “Former Things”
The first call is simple but not easy: “Forget the former things.”
This doesn’t mean erasing our past. It means releasing its hold — the regrets, the failures, the stories we keep telling ourselves that God has already rewritten. We often cling to old identities, labels, and scripts. But when we do that, we risk becoming blind to the new chapter God is writing.
It’s hard to let go when the pain is still fresh. When betrayal stings or disappointment clouds the horizon. But God isn’t asking us to forget because the past doesn’t matter. He’s asking us to trust that something greater is on the way.
God's Creativity Blooms in Barren Places
“Now it springs forth — do you not perceive it?”
Sometimes, we don’t perceive it. We’re too busy trying to survive the wilderness. Yet, God is not waiting for our clarity to begin His work. He’s already making a way. Already planting seeds. Already whispering purpose into what feels like wasted time.
This verse reminds me that the most fertile growth often begins in desolate places. In the desert of my own pain, I’ve seen the first sprout of something new — a deeper commitment to serve, to love, to pour out the talents and experiences God has given me.
God’s economy is different. He doesn’t waste our wilderness. He transforms it into rivers.
For Anyone Feeling Lost, Alone, or Defeated
If you’re reading this and walking through grief, burnout, or the quiet ache of unfulfilled dreams, this word is for you.
God is doing a new thing — even if you don’t see it yet.
- He is making a way where there was none.
- He is opening streams in the driest corners of your heart.
- He is building strength in your surrender, and a testimony in your waiting.
Let this be your permission to hope again. To lift your eyes from the dust and expect divine creativity to meet you in the middle of your brokenness.
Living the Wisdom Ratio
Here at The Wisdom Ratio, we believe in living from a place where wisdom outweighs fear, faith outweighs anxiety, and renewal outweighs regret.
Isaiah 43:18–19 is a blueprint for that kind of life. One where we don’t just survive difficulty — we emerge from it transformed. We become living rivers in someone else’s desert. We don’t just move forward; we move with purpose.
Final Thought: What If You’re the River?
As I reflect on how God has graced me — through second chances, divine timing, and unexplainable peace — I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. And with that gratitude comes a calling: to give back. To share what I’ve learned. To sit with others in their wilderness and remind them: you are not alone, and you are not forgotten.
So maybe today, God is not just making a river for you.
Maybe He’s making a river through you.
Let it flow.
